The Nazca Lines are mysterious drawings cut into the desert which can only become intelligible when viewed from above. Each Nazca Stone has been carved by Indians of the Nazca Plains and are reproductions of these drawings. The stone used is brought from river beds high in the Andes Mountains and a design is etched on with thin coping saw blades. Colors are then added using shoe polish. The significance of the Nazca Lines is subject to much present day speculation. Theories range from religious symbols, to landing strips for extra terrestrials.
